Childhood, Parental Loss and Depression

The purpose of this article is to discuss one possible cause for some children and teenagers to experience depression. This is not meant to be an exhaustive discussion of all the possible causes. The one particular factor that is the focus of this article is the child's experience of loss of the parent. Increasingly, research studies are showing that parental loss during childhood or adolescence can and often does lead to depression during childhood and into adulthood.
